Harrys' David Goggins challenge raises £2,000 for Alzheimer's Society

Harry Hedley and Harry Proctor ran a 4x4x48 David Goggins challenge for the Alzheimer’s Society

Two Rochdale men have raised over £2,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society with a David Goggins challenge.

Harry Hedley and Harry Proctor raised £2,300 after completing the 4x4x48 challenge, created by retired Navy Seal and ultrarunner David Goggins – running four miles every four hours in 48 hours (4x4x48).

However, instead of 12 runs, the pair decided to complete 13 runs to make a total two-marathon distance equivalent of 52 miles.

They started their challenge at 10am on Friday 25 August, running several routes around Bolton. The second 24 hours saw Harry and Harry run around Rochdale and Whitworth, before the final run at 10am on Sunday 27 August.

Around 12 of their family and friends joined the duo on their final run from the Whitworth Co-op to the Regal Moon pub in Rochdale where a couple of cold beers were waiting.

Emily Hedley, Harry Hedley’s sister, said: “They ran at 10am, 2pm, 6pm, 10pm, 2am, 6am, and repeat. This meant they completed the challenge with around 45 mins of sleep here and there, between the runs and recovery. They both said the sleep deprivation was a huge challenge. 

“Their training and preparation in the run-up was quite intense. A few of us joined in on some of the runs for support, which was good fun.”
