Heywood Lions: John Sagar handed over the leadership of the club to Steve Brown for the 51st year of the club’s service
Steve Brown has been named as the new president for the 51st year of the Heywood Lions.
The community group, which helps others and supports local good causes, saw outgoing president John Sagar hand over leadership to Steve.
Steve said that in addition to fundraising and supporting the community, he wanted to promote the Lions youth projects in Heywood and the wider Rochdale borough.
Steve is the current district youth team leader – the district comprising clubs from Cumbria to north Leicestershire – and is looking for groups/individuals to take part in these projects.
The youth projects encompass all age groups and talents from the young ambassador competition (ages 15–18), peace poster competition (ages 7–13) and young leaders in service (ages 8–18).
Lions Clubs are groups of volunteers who join together to give their valuable time and effort to improving their communities, and the world.
Having begun in 1917, there are 48,000 Lions Clubs worldwide across more than 200 countries. There are three in the borough: Heywood, Littleborough and Rochdale.
