Kentmere Academy awarded Wellbeing Award for Schools

Date published: 01 August 2023

Kentmere Academy has been awarded a Wellbeing Award for Schools for a second time.

The award focuses on changing the long-term culture of wellbeing of the whole school using an evidence-based framework to drive change.

Working towards the reaccreditation has enabled the school to look closely at the effectiveness of systems and partnerships with external agencies to fully support the wellbeing of staff and pupils alike.

The award helps schools to ensure staff and pupil wellbeing are a key priority by reviewing staff training, and revising current policies so mental health and wellbeing sit at the heart of school life.

Through the award, Kentmere has embedded a strong culture and reduced the stigma around mental health, meaning that pupils and staff speak up.

A full range of support is available to staff and pupils, allowing for personalised support when it is needed most, plus every day strategies to improve general wellbeing.

The assessor, Leanne Doherty, commented: "It is clear that the work on wellbeing has continued to develop and grow over the last few years due to consistent and targeted support from the school.

“A culture of positive wellbeing is developing well and embedding itself into the culture of the school."

Headteacher Nicola Howard praised the staff and pupils, saying: "We have worked hard to embed an authentic culture of wellbeing at Kentmere and are incredibly proud of the feedback received.

“We will continue to respond to the needs of our community in order to improve mental health and wellbeing for all.”
