The pop-up swimming pool that has been trialled at Norden Primary School
Pupils at Norden Community Primary School have been making a splash for the last three weeks, thanks to a new pop-up swimming pool.
All children in Key Stage 2 have had daily lessons in the pool as part of Swim:ED – a new pilot programme by Dream Big Sports Ltd – which provides a mobile swimming pool and lessons.
By monitoring progress and recording attainment levels, Swim:ED enables schools to meet its core curriculum outcomes with minimal disruption to the school timetable and ensure pupils are safe, competent and confident in the water.
Norden Community Primary School is a partner school with Dream Big Sports: in total, 240 children across Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have benefited – with the on-site pool providing extra sessions for Year 4 who swim at Heywood Sports Village each year.
Headteacher Rachael Bentham said: "Here at Norden, we place great emphasis on developing both physical and mental health and this has been a great opportunity for the children in Years 3-6 to do this.
“Over the three weeks, we have seen the children gain confidence, improve their swimming skills and have fun. We would like to thank Dream Big for allowing us to be involved in this pilot programme."
