Redwood School supported by Oldham social enterprise

Date published: 09 June 2023

Upturn, a social enterprise based in Oldham, has been working with Rochdale's Redwood School and McDonald's to unlock the potential and improve the lives and the health and wellbeing of young people across Oldham and Rochdale.

As part of the project, the Oldham-based social enterprise has given the students valuable work experience and they have gained many transferrable skills as well as a much-needed confidence boost.

By working with McDonald’s, students from the Rochdale school have been able to create pathways to opportunities.

Maria Williams, co-founder and HRM director of Upturn, said: “This has been an amazing project to work on – bringing a hugely successful organisation like McDonald’s to directly work with and support the next generation of our children, giving them skills and the confidence to help them when entering the world of work.

“We’re committed to building a community of stakeholders, employers and employer representatives across Oldham and Rochdale that are passionate about recovery creating pathways for our young local talent to develop.

“In times of continued challenge, we want to work with those who want to embrace new pathways to work and play their part in addressing the challenges and barriers that our young people face in getting closer to work.”

Upturn supports young people into the job market and to contribute to economic recovery.
