Date published: 17 February 2023

Firefighters spent four hours battling a fire at an industrial unit on Manchester Road in Castleton on Thursday afternoon.

Six fire engines from across Greater Manchester along with a Command Support Unit were called to reports of a fire at an industrial unit.

Manchester Road was closed in both directions at Thornham New Road for some time whilst the blaze was tackled and the 17 bus between Rochdale and Manchester was temporarily diverted via the motorway between Stakehill and Sudden.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Crews arrived quickly at scene.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatuses used four hose reels and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire.”

“Firefighters were in attendance for around four hours .”
