Burst pipe leaves residents of Heywood and Middleton without water

Date published: 15 February 2023

A burst pipe on a water main has left residents of Heywood and Middleton without any water, or low pressure.

The incident is affecting the OL10 and M24 areas after first being reported at 3am on Wednesday 15 February.

United Utilities, the region’s water supplier, says the issue has been caused by a burst on a large water main. It says the repair will be “quite complex” and “may take a bit of time to complete” due to being “located in a forested area.”

Additional water is being pumped into the network with additional measures in place.

The lasted update at 11.54am says: “Our team are continuing to work hard to fix a burst on a large water main causing supply issues in your area.

“Whilst we work on the repairs, our water tankers are continuing to pump into the pipes to help get customers’ water back on. Although we have temporary measures in place, we’re aware that some of our customers may still be experiencing supply issues. We’re looking at other ways to improve the situation for those customers.

“Thank you for your ongoing patience and please continue to bear with us.

“We will provide keep you updated as we progress with the repair.”

Updates will be posted on United Utilities’ website:
