Community health information at Deeplish Community Centre

Date published: 13 February 2023

Local residents participated in a Community Health & Information Day at Deeplish Community Centre on Wednesday 8 February.

The open day was organised to raise awareness and provide information about healthy lifestyles, and provide professional advice on issues such as energy issues, health checks and financial help.

There were lots of stalls and information for the public, with support coming from Living Well, Cancer Research UK, Spice, Citizens Advice, Crescent Radio, Rochdale Carers Hub, Cartwheel Arts, Your Trust, Talk English, and Rochdale Council’s recycling and environmental management team promoting ‘love where you live’.

Basic health checks were provided by Living Well. BMI checks were performed by nurses from Cancer Research UK, whilst advice was given about reducing blood pressure, long-term effects of diabetes, and warned about what could happen when people ignore health advice.

Talk English provided residents the opportunity to enrol on English and digital courses and classes.

Sohail Ahmad, manager at Deeplish Community Centre, said: “We were pleased to offer health, wellbeing, community engagement, advice and information at this event for local community.

“It is good to see people attending for information and participating in community health information and engagement sessions at the centre.

“We aim to promote health, well-being by way of community engagement, empowerment and supporting our neighbourhood residents and local community.

“We look forward to holding many community events promoting health, wellbeing, active participation and engagement whilst connecting with mainstream support and services.”
