Grade-II listed Middleton home designed by Edgar Wood goes on the market

Date published: 14 January 2023

A Grade-II listed house designed by Edgar Wood has gone on the market in Middleton.

The Towncroft Avenue home by the famous local architect boasts stunning period features, bay windows, three reception rooms, four double bedrooms, plus a cellar and large garage.

It also benefits from a south facing garden with large lawned area and Indian stone patio area and private parking Indian stoned driveway.

The detached home, also known as Arkholme, was originally built in 1901 as a photographic studio for Edgar Wood’s friend Charles Jackson, brother of painter Frederick Jackson. It was adapted into a house in 1905 and is Wood’s very first flat roofed design.

Morgan Taylor, sales negotiator at Barton Kendal Middleton, said: "An Edgar Wood House doesn't come on the market very often and presents a really unique home. Its beauty really needs to be seen in order to truly appreciate its gorgeous period features.

"The person who is lucky enough to live here will enjoy a stunning turn of the century home for many years."

Viewing is strongly recommended and offers to be made in excess of £400,000.

Wood gained a considerable reputation and was a key figure in the Arts and Crafts movement, an architectural style which celebrated traditional forms of craftsmanship which people feared would be lost as a result of the industrial revolution.
