Second Eco-Schools Green Flag for Kentmere

Kentmere Academy's eco council
Kentmere Academy and Nursery has received its second Eco-Schools Green Flag.
Over the course of the year, the children have grown fruit from trees (planted by themselves with support from City of Trees) which were then used by the catering manager and his team in school lunches.
They have also regularly picked litter in the local area, and important environmental issues are embedded in lessons. Children in early years have learnt about the impact of litter picking whilst in upper KS2 the children have debates about issues surrounding climate change.
Vicky Howcroft-Swift, eco-coordinator, said: "I am so proud of the children and their ongoing contribution to improving their local area whilst also learning about their impact on environmental issues in the wider world."

The Eco-Schools programme provides a seven-step framework that empowers young people to make a difference in their school, local community and beyond.
Since 1994, millions of young people around the world have worked through the Eco-Schools Seven Steps before being recognised for their efforts with a prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag.
