Rochdale Sea Cadets open evening

Date published: 03 January 2023

The Rochdale Sea Cadet Unit is holding an open evening and recruitment night on Wednesday 4 January.

This is a chance for prospective new cadets aged 12-18 and their parents to take a look around the TS Frobisher II on Greenbank Road, whilst speaking to current cadets and staff members about what the Rochdale unit and the Sea Cadet Corps as a whole can offer.

The next intake takes place on Tuesday 11 January and upon completion of new entry training, new members make a decision as to whether they want to become a Sea Cadet or a Marine Cadet.

At a recent area conference, the Rochdale unit was awarded the title of Most Improved Unit 2022, and has also achieved significant accomplishments, including placing second at the area shooting competition, and placing third in the district five-a-side football.

Commanding officer Sally Tisdall, who previously served in the Royal Navy, said: “Some of our team will be representing the North West area in the area competition in January, and we also had some cadets entered in the area swimming competition which took place at Blackpool.

“There are a number of camps, courses  and competitions arranged for 2023 which include a summer camp for some cadets to attend at HMS Raleigh and we are hoping to enter competitions at both district and area level as well as encouraging cadets to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.”

The open evening takes place from 7.30pm-9.30pm on Wednesday 4 January at TS Frobisher II, Greenbank Road, OL12 0EN.

If you are interested in attending, please email Sally Tisdall on corochdale@noreastlancs.org, or send a Facebook message with your details and who will be attending.

Any adults who are interested in joining – and are suitably qualified to assist as Instructing Staff – can also contact Sally on the same details as can anyone interested in joining the newly-formed Parents and Friends Committee, which is responsible for arranging fundraising events.
