Queen's Jubilee tree replaced after vandalism

Date published: 01 December 2022

A tree planted in Norden for the Queen’s Jubilee has been replaced after being vandalised.

The tree was originally planted in September at Norden Jubilee Park, which had been donated by the Norden Women's Institute to commemorate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

On Monday (28 November) it was discovered that the tree had been vandalised and broken.

However, a new cherry blossom is now in place just 48 hours later.

The replacement tree has been donated by local company H Bell and Sons, whilst its wooden supports have been donated by Jewsons Rochdale.

Chrissie Wolstenholme, President of the Norden WI, said: "We were disappointed to discover, that the tree we had donated to the Jubilee Park Gardens in Norden to commemorate our late Queen's Jubilee had been vandalised.

“Well, low and behold within 48 hours, we have another provided and planted thanks to the kind generosity H Bell and Sons and the support of Paul Ellison from Norden In Bloom. It lifts your spirits to know that there are still some really kind people within our community. Thank you so much."

Paul added: "A huge thank you to H Bell and Sons, where this will count towards their 110 trees being planted to celebrate 110 years in business.

"Also we would like to give special thanks to Jewson Rochdale Branch for the donation of the wooden supports, and Frank Key Tool Hire for their continued support to the local community."
