Winners revealed for annual Little’Pink’Borough and Milnrow’Pink’Hey cancer awareness campaigns

Date published: 29 October 2022

This year’s winners for the annual Little’Pink’Borough and Milnrow’Pink’Hey cancer awareness campaigns have been revealed.

The annual campaign sees many shops and businesses display pink in their windows for October’s Cancer Awareness month, judged by local councillors.

The best display for Little’Pink’Borough was The Ark Nursery, chosen by Councillors Ashley Dearnley and John Taylor.

They were very impressed with the amount of work, time, effort that had gone into the many windows they have and each with different messages of hope, awareness, along with the children joining in creating fantastic displays.

Jo Wildman, of The Ark Nursery, said: “Thank you so much for recognising the work that the whole team at The Ark Littleborough have put in, and that includes the parents who have dressed their children in pink and donated to raise £103.33.

“Well done Team Ark and thank you to the Three Amigos for hosting this event every single year. We love taking part and raising awareness for the cause. We will treasure the trophy this year.”

The joint winners of Milnrow’Pink’Hey went to Rebecca’s Café on Dale Street and The Gallows pub, chosen by Councillors Dave Bamford and Andy Kelly, and Kath O’Donnell.

Rebecca’s Café had many messages in their window display and also made homemade cookies in love heart shapes with pink bras on them; each cookie sold saw a donation made towards the charity.

Staff at Rebecca’s said: “We are very proud to support a very important cause raising funds and awareness and as a new business are thrilled to be joint winners.

“We are very proud of the commitment of Rebecca’s staff for raising funds with homemade cookies for this amazing cause.”

The Gallows featured hand-painted windows featuring a tree of life and hope, the Cancer Research logo, different bras on washing lines, as well as other pink displays. They also held two afternoon teas and a raffle to raise funds.

Rachael Hayden, of The Gallows, said: “We are proud to be joint winners of Milnrow ‘Pink’Hey. We are truly delighted as I myself and David [Rachael’s husband] have lost close family and friends to cancer so we will always be happy to support cancer research.”

Sponsored by Hunters Estate Agents, Littleborough’s pink campaign is in its seventh year and Milnrow’Pink’Hey – sponsored by Sterling Solutions – is in its second year.

The event is organised by The Three Amigos FUNdraising Group, Tracey Jacobs and Suzanne Gumbley, who said: “Thank you to everyone for taking part. We have had lots of supporters again this year including nurseries and schools, who have done various fundraising events. We are very grateful to all who joined in our pink campaign.

“Thanks to our main sponsors, Hunters Estate Agents and Sterling Solutions, and thanks to our local councillors for having the difficult task of judging the displays.

“There were some outstanding displays and we are extremely grateful for all who have supported and taken the time and effort to create the pink displays that really brighten the villages up and is a talking point raising awareness.”
