Whittaker Moss were on the road representing Rochdale AFC in the 2021/22 Utilita EFL Kids Cup
Pupils from Whittaker Moss were on the road representing Rochdale AFC this week, as they travelled to Salford Sports Village for the latest round of the 2021/22 Utilita EFL Kids Cup.
On Tuesday (8 March) the school joined 11 other schools who were representing EFL clubs from across the northern region in a bid to win a place at the national finals at Wembley Stadium.
Whittaker Moss opened against a strong Tranmere team in their first game and managed to earn a draw. The competition soon kicked up a notch, with the team losing the next three games before lunch.
Whilst disappointed with the results, the team never gave up and put in an incredible performance in the afternoon, winning three games in a row and drawing the last to be in contention for the semi-finals.
Unfortunately, it was not to be and the team missed out on the top four, eventually winning four and drawing two to finish in sixth place.
Graham Hicks, Sports Coordinator, said: “What a fantastic day we all had at the regional finals.
“We had our ups and downs throughout, but all the pupils played the games the right way and represented Rochdale AFC fantastically.
“Although we didn’t make it to Wembley, the children should be proud of their achievements in making it this far.
“They couldn’t have been better prepared, after a session with Robbie Stockdale a couple of weeks ago at the Crown Oil Arena and hard work from everyone at the school, in particular Mr Chapman for his hard work in getting the children to this stage.”
