Jordan’s Plants and Eggs moves into unit in Rochdale Exchange

Date published: 29 January 2021

Jordan’s Plants and Eggs stall can now be found within the Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre, following the independent trader's move to the old outdoor market this week.

Located on the subway corridor near JLR Jewellers, the stall is in the unit that lies along the ramp of the old outdoor market next to Iceland.

Lorenzo O’Reilly, Centre Manager at Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre, commented: “We are delighted to welcome back to the Exchange this family-run business, Jordan’s Plants and Eggs, to the centre.

“He will be a great addition to our already extensive mix and on behalf of the team, I would like to say welcome to Peter and wish him the very best of luck in his new unit.”

Peter Jordan has been working on his market stall since 1960 selling fresh eggs from the family’s farm in Rossendale, which Peter’s son now runs, along with potted plants.

Even though Peter has worked on the stall for over 60 years, the stall itself has been famously trading eggs from the family farm for 100 years in Rochdale. Peter’s grandfather, Patrick, set up the family’s stall on Yorkshire Street back in 1919 and Peter has sold his farm produce on the stall since he was a teenager.

His recent move into Rochdale Exchange is the sixth one he’s had to make in the town, most recently moving to Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre in November 2019 after Rochdale’s market closed in October.

The Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre then announced it would not reopen after the national lockdown in November 2020, exactly a year after Jordan’s stall moved in.
