Date published: 17 July 2020

Brentwood Middleton Day Centre is providing hot food free of charge to those in need.

Now reopen again after being closed during the Covid-19 lockdown period, the Long Street centre is offering free hot food to take away on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays of each week.

John Crosby, centre manager, said: “We are supplying hot meals outside, weather permitting, 12.30pm to 1pm and also as takeaways. We are providing up to 20 meals and we are operating under the Covid-19 restrictions, the meals are for those that are homeless, facing homelessness, struggling with debt or finding it hard to make ends meet, and those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged.

"We expect that any one who shows up provides proof of need and undertakes assessment so that we can deal with the underlying issues that they present with."

Brentwood, the only service of its kind in the Middleton area, opened in May 1989 as a direct result of the work of the Middleton Working Party on Homelessness, a group set up to investigate the problem of homelessness within the Middleton and surrounding areas.

It provides support to homeless and vulnerable members of the Middleton community.

Anyone who is homeless can access the day centre at any time between 9am and 3pm on weekdays.

Anyone who has welfare rights/housing benefit issues can access the centre on an appointment basis only: ring 0161 655 4062 and ask for Sharon, who will book you in.

Brentwood Middleton Day Centre is located at 115 Long Street, Middleton M24 6DL and is now open Monday to Friday 9am to 3.30pm.
