Three creative Littleborough siblings have created a ‘rock snake’ in Hare Hill Park – with the length growing day by day – to spread joy during lockdown.

Evie Mitchell, nine, Maisie-Rae Mitchell, six, and their brother Archie Mitchell, three, started the ‘snake’ on 21 May with six painted pebbles, which has now quickly grown to over 200 rocks.

Having previously partaken in the local painted rocks initiative – painting a rock and placing it in a public place for someone else to discover and move – the children took things further after being inspired by a similar project elsewhere in the country.

Their mum, Sam Platzer, said: “After we saw on Facebook that some children had created this rock snake, the girls wanted to make their own, as they loved painting rocks for people to find.

“We checked on Discuss Littleborough that no-one else was already doing this, as we didn’t want to step on any toes.”

The family, of Shore, have been walking to the park whilst the weather has been nice, placing their painted efforts around the bandstand.

After posting online to let other local residents know its location, others quickly added their own rock art to the snake.

Coiled around the bandstand, the snake is a colourful addition to the park, featuring colourful rocks painted with an assortment of images, including mermaids, rainbows, bees and ladybirds, plus lots thanking the NHS.
