Springhill’s Sunflower Appeal returns for 2020 - this time in your home

Date published: 06 June 2020

Springhill Hospice’s annual Sunflower Appeal returns this summer, this time directly into supporters’ homes.

The annual Sunflower Appeal gives supporters the chance to pay tribute to those who have touched their lives by making a donation to the hospice in exchange for a personalised sunflower plaque. Usually the plaques would be displayed in the hospice’s award-winning gardens at the Summer Garden Celebration for supporters to collect and take home.

This year, with the cancellation of the Summer Garden Celebration event the appeal will be slightly different with the plaques being sent directly to supporters through the post, helping to continue the hospice's work.

Michelle Faust, who works at Springhill Hospice but is also a supporter of the Sunflower Appeal, said: “After both of my parents were cared for at Springhill, I support the hospice as much as I can. It’s my way of saying thank you for the way we were looked after.

"The Sunflower Appeal is especially dear to me. The yellow sunflowers make me smile, they brighten up even the greyest of days. When I’m missing mum and dad, the sunflower plaques give me hope and comfort, and I know their love is still around me.

"Every penny raised helps towards the running of the most amazing place in the world. They truly do have angels working there.”

Rebekah Cheshire, Springhill’s Events and Campaigns Fundraiser said: “In these uncertain times, it’s lovely to be able to add smiles and a little sunshine into people’s homes this summer. Springhill’s Sunflower Appeal is a beautiful way to honour your loved ones, whilst also knowing that you are contributing to the continuity of hospice care in the Rochdale borough.”

This year, there is an added extra piece of Springhill for supporters to buy as part of their Sunflower Appeal, as the hospice is also offering exclusive pin badges. The badges are inspired by the Sunflower Appeal itself and the two designs include a beautiful bee and a butterfly. Both are available from the hospice website.
