Eight-year-old's marathon challenge for the Heywood Foodbank

Date published: 28 May 2020

Bella Ashton, eight, is taking on a marathon challenge to raise vital funds for the Heywood Foodbank.

Bella will walk 90 laps in a field near her house to complete the 26.2 mile challenge, having already smashed her aim of raising £50. To date, she has raised just over £300.

Liam Killough from the Heywood Foodbank, said: “Bella attends Bamford Academy where she was told about the foodbank at the Harvest Festival and, in her own words, ‘in these hard times wanted to do something to help.’

Bella is also a member of Sign Along with Us, a signing choir which featured on Britain’s Got Talent recently. They were such a hit that they won the Golden Buzzer in the first show of the current series.

Bella’s mum, Lisa, said: “Bella is the most thoughtful and caring child you could meet; she always has a smile on her face, she is always thinking about others and wanted to help at least one family by raising £50. We are very proud of Bella and the commitment she has.”

Brian Doyle, President of the SVP Heywood Food Bank, added: “Wouldn't it be wonderful if Bella became Heywood’s Captain Tom. We're all very proud of her.”
