GP practices will be operating as normal in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale on May bank holiday (Friday 8 May) to help the NHS cope with the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak. More pharmacies will also be open and for longer than is usual on a bank holiday.
People in the borough will be able to contact their GP practice, as usual on Friday 8 May 2020 and are reminded to contact 111.nhs.uk if they are showing symptoms of Covid-19 (a high temperature or a new, continuous cough).
The change to traditional bank holiday opening hours comes as healthcare professionals across the country continue to help alleviate the growing pressures on out of hours services.
Pharmacies will operate between 2pm and 5pm on Friday 8 May 2020 to dispense prescriptions and residents are advised to only order medication if it is necessary. Some pharmacies will take the decision to open for longer.
Dr Chris Duffy, Chair, Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group said: “Due to the unprecedented situation the NHS is in currently, GP practices will be open on bank holiday Friday 8 May and will be available in the same way they have been over the past five weeks. If you have symptoms of coronavirus (a high temperature or a new, continuous cough), use the NHS 111 coronavirus service at www.111.nhs.uk/covid-19 or call NHS 111 free.
For all other matters please ring your GP practice and if necessary arrangements will be made for you to be seen. Please do not turn up to the GP practice unless you have been asked to.
Please follow all government announcements on self-isolation and social distancing: stay at home; only go outside for food, health reasons or essential work; stay two metres (6ft) away from other people; wash your hands as soon as you get home and protect yourselves and others.”
