Launch of Rochdale’s Got Talent

Date published: 02 May 2020

Rochdale’s Got Talent – a new competition which is hoping to raise £10,000 for Springhill Hospice – has officially launched today (Saturday 2 May).

Everyone is invited to send in videos for the initial audition phase, observing the following guidelines:

Recent videos only: Please only submit a video filmed since you’ve been stuck at home. It doesn’t matter if it’s a bit ‘rough and ready’ – judges will take this into consideration so don’t worry.

One, short video: Please submit one video and ideally something less than 3 minutes long (if possible). This should be plenty of time for the judges to get a good measure of your talents! Please introduce yourself at the start and provide your name and age.

Only submit your own entry: Please don’t submit an entry for another person – with the exception of a child or in instances where they are not able to upload the video themselves. Please request their permission in doing so beforehand though.

Submitting entries: Please submit your entry via the below Dropbox link. It will request name details when doing so – this is used purely for act identification purposes and for display if they appear on the Rochdale’s Got Talent Facebook page. The email address entered is not passed on by Dropbox.

No entry fee: There is no entry fee… but the sole purpose of this competition is to raise money for Springhill Hospice. If you submit an entry, like someone’s video, or just feel generous, please donate via the following link. You choose the amount!

Keep it legal and safe: Please don’t carry out acts that could cause harm or break any laws (including current lockdown advice).

Please don’t mind us showing off your skills: During the competition the Rochdale’s Got Talent committee will show the rest of Facebook some of the amazing videos you’ve sent in.

Entry submission dates: Entries can be submitted between Saturday 2 May to Saturday 23 May inclusive (deadline extended from 16 May). The final rounds will then follow in the next two weeks so please check back to the Facebook page for details.

Use of videos: Once entries are submitted, their only use will be for judging purposes, displaying on Rochdale’s Got Talent’s social channels, or by external media organisations in relation to covering this competition. Obviously, any videos/names placed on social media instantly enter the public domain. Please consider this when sending entries in.

Keep it clean and let’s see YOUR talent: Absolutely no profanity or insensitive subject matter will be permitted. No lip-syncing, or TikTok mashup videos please.

Any talent wanted: In true ‘Got Talent’ spirit we want acts of all ages and types. Please don’t hesitate to send – there are so many different talents to be appreciated.

Helen Spratt from Edgy Events will be presenting the show via regular video updates throughout the competition.

The finalists will be chosen by seven judges before a live public vote will be held via Facebook, reducing the 12 finalists to three.

A week later, another live vote will be held to crown the Rochdale’s Got Talent winner.

Each time a participant is a selected finalist, they will be required to send in another video for the next stage. Participants will be sorted into age groups, in the audition selection stage.

The last 12 finalists will receive prizes, the last three can choose a prize and the winner will receive a grand prize.

Incredible prizes have already been donated – such as a chance to be an extra on a television show like Peaky Blinders or Coronation Street, and a £1,000 jewellery voucher – but if you want to donate an amazing prize to the cause, please email rochdalesgottalent@hotmail.com or message the Rochdale’s Got Talent Facebook page:
