A new competition is being launched during lockdown with ambitious aims to raise £10,000 for Springhill Hospice – get prepared for Rochdale’s Got Talent.

Members of the public will be asked to send in videos via a dedicated link for the initial audition phase, before the 12 finalists are chosen by seven judges. The judges are:

  • Fiona Briddon from Fab Dance dance school
  • Dave Sweetmore from Revolution Radio
  • local hair stylist Gregory Couzens
  • local pub landlord Ben Boothman
  • Rochdale's singing jeweller John Alexander (also known as Swinden)
  • Carol Godby from Carol Godby's performing arts school
  • Alan Newman from Dance For Fun dance school

From there, a live public vote will be held via Facebook, reducing the 12 finalists to three.

A week later, another live vote will be held to crown the Rochdale’s Got Talent winner.

Each time a participant is a selected finalist, they will be required to send in another video for the next stage.

Participants will be sorted into age groups, in the audition selection stage. The launch and deadlines for entries will be announced soon.

The last 12 finalists will receive prizes, the last three can choose a prize and the winner will receive a grand prize.

The Rochdale’s Got Talent committee is made up of Paul Ellison, Man of Rochdale, who thought of the initiative, Rochdale AFC’s Greg Jones, Sam Kutereba-Wall, Anthony Mercer from MotoFoto, Amanda Chadwick, Lee Condron from Admiral Labels & Print Ltd, Barbara Lloyd from Springhill Hospice and Toastmaster Alan Calow, well known in Rochdale Town Hall.

Helen Spratt from Edgy Events will be presenting the show via regular video updates throughout the competition.

Mr Ellison said: “Get dancing, singing, juggling, or whatever madness you do, young or old – and watch this space and other social media channels of how to enter.

“Let's have some fun, raise a load of money for the hospice, and, most importantly, stay safe.”

Incredible prizes have already been donated – such as a chance to be an extra on a television show like Peaky Blinders or Coronation Street, and a £1,000 jewellery voucher – with the committee still looking for more.
