Geddit' is a free service run by volunteers in Heywood

A new free delivery service, Geddit’, has been set up for the people of Heywood by a team of volunteers to help people during the coronavirus pandemic.

Geddit’ was initially started by Andy Conlon on Friday 27 March to collect grocery shopping for people who are unable to leave their house and classed as vulnerable.

He is now joined by a team of volunteers – his ‘Go Gedders’ – who have been collecting and delivering essentials, as well as delivering emergency food boxes, and transporting PPE.

The team has also been busy delivering hot meals those most in need, provided for free courtesy of the Heywood Pub.

Andy told Rochdale Online: “Before I started Geddit' just over a week ago I was around two months into launching a zero-emission chauffeur business.

“Despite a very encouraging start I could see that the business was very quickly drying up and would stay that way for at least a month or two, so I decided to use my vehicle and my time for something else during the pandemic.”

In his mission, Andy and the Go Gedders have been working alongside other groups like Action Together, Rochdale Borough Council, HMR Circle, and Coronavirus Support Heywood. 

He added: “I believe there are many more people out there who don't know about our service and who are in desperate need of help – either from ourselves or they need pointing in the right direction to get the support they need.
