Heywood woman’s rainbow letters bring a smile to hundreds

A Heywood woman has put smiles on hundreds of faces across the town during the coronavirus pandemic by delivering a special heartfelt letter to houses with rainbows in the windows.

Becka Jackson, 27, of Argyle Street, spent 11 days over March and April delivering 1,350 letters to houses with rainbows – walking just short of 58 miles in the process – when out for her daily walk.

A transport planner and barmaid before the outbreak, key worker Becka had decided to distribute a special letter to houses with rainbows to boost the spirits of the children who had created them, as well as their families.

Becka, a qualified nursery nurse, said: “I know for kids, this has been a really difficult time. Their lives have been turned completely around, and their parents have been asking them to put rainbows in the windows, but they probably don’t understand why.

“When they see that someone has seen their rainbow, it gives them some sort of spirit that what they are doing is working.”

Becka visited as many houses as possible, popping a letter through the doors of those with rainbows, in addition to visiting addresses she had been asked to. She was helped with distributing the letters by Dan Goodall, Danika Hampton and Sue Cawley, of Beautifully Exposed Photography.

Many of the residents gave gifts to Becka expressing their gratitude, including flowers, a bottle of wine, an Easter egg, and a specially designed certificate for her efforts.

Becka added: “Thank you for all the positivity, comments and support.

“I will still be going out walking and seeing your rainbows, and it will be putting a smile on my face. I really hope for families it has helped. And I do hope the letter put a smile on your face, because the rainbows did cheer me up.”

I just wanted to say I saw your drawing/picture of a rainbow in the window, whilst getting my 1-hour daily exercise in, and it made me smile.

The rainbow will come at the end of this storm
