Clap for Our Carers scheduled for 8pm tonight

Date published: 26 March 2020

The Clap For Our Carers campaign will see people across the UK applaud NHS workers from the doorsteps and windows of their homes to say thank you for all of their efforts during the current pandemic.

The Clap For Our Carers campaign poster reads: “During these unprecedented times they need to know that we are grateful. Please join us on 26 March at 8pm for a big applause (from front doors, gardens, balconies, windows, living rooms, etc) to show all nurses, doctors, GPs and carers our appreciation for their ongoing hard work and fight against the virus."

Similar events have already been held in countries such as Italy, France and Spain. The Italians and Spanish have also been singing from their balconies in order to lift spirits during the current crisis.

The organisers of the campaign say they decided to stage it because NHS staff need to know how grateful the country is during these “unprecedented” times. NHS workers are classed as key workers by the government and so time off to see friends and family during this time is hard to come by.

A number of high profile names such as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as well as David and Victoria Beckham have also backed the campaign.

The Clap For Our Carers will happen across the UK on Thursday 26 March at 8pm.
