Whilst pretending they are from the council. the scammers are offering to go shopping for the elderly and vulnerable.
Unlike the genuine concerned residents who have been purchasing essentials for those in need who have been self-isolating, the scammers are asking for money upfront – and then not returning.
A spokesperson for the council said: “We have received reports of scammers, pretending to be from the council, offering to do shopping for elderly and vulnerable people.
“The scammers are asking for money upfront and not returning.”
The council has asked residents to be vigilant and don't hesitate to report any concerns to Trading Standards:
- Tel.: 0345 040506
- Email: trading.standards@rochdale.gov.uk
The NHS has advised that those with symptoms of the coronavirus stay at home for seven days if you have a high temperature or a new, continuous cough.
Those at risk, those with symptoms and those who have returning from at risk areas are advised to self-isolate to avoid spreading the disease.
