Suspected stolen van reverses into police car at speed

A police inspector received minor injuries after a van reversed at speed into the driver’s door of his car in Rochdale.

After spotting a suspected stolen van on Albert Royds Street on Thursday afternoon (12 March), Inspector Fern was in the process of turning his vehicle around when the driver of the van reversed at speed into the driver’s door of the police vehicle causing extensive damage. The van was later found by officers abandoned on Stanneybrook Close.

Fortunately, Inspector Fern suffered only minor injuries from the impact.

A spokesperson for the police said: “Inspector Fern would like to thank the many members of the public who came to his assistance at the time.

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed or who may have dashcam footage of this incident to contact the Neighbourhood team at Rochdale.”
