Norden set for a Great British Spring Clean

Date published: 15 March 2020

UPDATE: The Great British Spring Clean has been postponed until September.

Norden’s annual Great British Spring Clean is set to be another litter busting event that will help keep the area clean and tidy.

Norden Jubilee Park, St Paul's Parish Hall/Blackpits, Greenbooth Road, Red Lumb, Norden Village and behind Ashbourne Nursing Home are all set for a good old-fashioned spring clean on Saturday 21 March.

Hosted by Friends of Norden Jubilee Park, the event aims to cut litter, end waste, improve public places and educate future generations.

Rochdale’s (joint) Man of the Year 2019 and ambassador for the scheme, Paul Ellison, said: “I want to urge people to comedown and get involved. This is our fourth year now and we’re getting more friendly faces each time.

“Also, many thanks to Norden Co-op store and The Old Library Community Café for sponsoring this event, by providing food and drink at the end of the event for all volunteers involved.”

Paul has previously been recognised locally for his hard work and dedication to improving Norden, especially cleaning and tidying, fundraising and setting up groups and events.

Last year, the group managed to clean-up 74 bags of rubbish, eight car tyres and many other potentially harmful items to the environment.

If you want to get involved, the group are meeting at 10am at Jubilee Park, Edenfield Road, Norden, OL11 5TT on Saturday 21 March 2020.

Other groups involved in the clean-up on 21 March will cover Birtle, Caldershaw, Ashworth Valley and Rooley Moor.
