International Women’s Day celebrated at Deeplish Community Centre

International Women’s Day was celebrated at Deeplish Community Centre with a diverse range of activities on Sunday 8 March.

Exercise, massage and wellbeing sessions took place with services being provided by Link4Life, Living Well and Deeplish Community Centre workers and volunteers.

Information was provided by Shabana Begum and Lisa Clayton whilst Dr Shaista spoke about women’s health and wellbeing, and Sarah Shad, of Link4Life, told attendees about the women’s only gym facility at Rochdale Leisure Centre.

Wellbeing coordinator Maniza Khan said: “It was good to see women coming out and participating in activities specially organised for them to stay well, active and connected.

“Our wellbeing club is providing regular engagement events and sessions at Deeplish Community Centre to empower and support women’s regular activities, promoting their interests and wellbeing.”

Ward councillor Sameena Zaheer said: "Everyone enjoyed and appreciated the event."

International Women's Day (8 March is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

International Women's Day has occurred for well over a century, with the first gathering in 1911 being supported by over a million people.
