Buckshaw Feel Good Festival in memory of Joshua McCormack organised by mum Nicola

The festival has been postponed and will take place at a later date.

A festival in memory of Joshua McCormack is being organised by his mum, Nicola, to raise funds for Derian House children’s hospice.

Five-year-old Joshua, of Whitworth, sadly died from a very rare brain tumour in January 2017. Nicknamed ‘Whitworth’s Superhero,’ Josh touched the hearts of many, with thousands of people following his courageous fight.

Joshua was cared for at Derian House, where mum Nicola says he received “excellent end of life care” from 2 November 2016 until Friday 13 January 2017 when he sadly lost his battle with cancer.

Nicola, who now lives in Chorley with Joshua’s little brother, Zachary, said: “The festival is about honouring Joshua’s legacy in aid of the hospice that gave Joshua and our family some unbelievable support and helped to create some happy memories during Joshua’s final weeks.

“Derian House is a charity close to my heart. As a mother of a terminally ill child, I recognise the need for paediatric end of life care and the importance of the wonderful work the hospice does for not only for the poorly child, but for their family too.”

Taking place in May, the Buckshaw Feel Good Festival will feature children’s rides and face painting, a craft and artisan market, live music and performances, sport club demonstrations, a gin and prosecco bar, plus food and drink.

Rochdale singer Brendan Decko will headline the festival, whilst Ribble FM Radio presenter and children’s entertainer, Simon Field will host. There will be photo opportunities with one of Joshua’s favourite cartoon characters, Cars’ Lightning McQueen, and Derian House’s mascot Dani will also make an appearance.

Speaking about her move, Nicola added: “I feel close to Joshua here and feel supported by the community in which I now live. I still regularly revisit Rochdale to attend Rochdale AFC home games, where the family enclosure -  McCormack 55 - is still named after Joshua. The club still very much supports our family.”

The Buckshaw Feel Good Festival takes place at 12.30pm on Saturday 9 May at the Buckshaw Community Centre with an official after party from 5pm at the Filling Factory, Buckshaw.
