Reuse Littleborough needs your help to fill container destined for Neema House baby home

Date published: 29 February 2020

Reuse Littleborough is asking for your help once more as the eco-friendly group prepares to send another container to Tanzania, Africa – this time bound for the Neema House baby home.

The container is being held at a secure site in Rochdale, and will be loaded up with life-changing donations for the baby rescue home, such as children’s new underwear and nappies, clothes and shoes, blankets, towels and toiletries such as hand wash, sanitisers, and sterilising tablets and fluid.

This will be the third container the group, which aims to keep unwanted items out of landfill, has sent abroad, after two previous filled containers were sent to the Forever Angels baby home, also in Tanzania.

Founded in 2015 and now based in the centre of Littleborough, Reuse Littleborough started with an online post, asking for donations of unwanted baby items to send to Forever Angels.

The community group was launched after founder Michael Bamford noticed a discrepancy between the waste we have in our country and those in need in poorer countries.

He hopes that local businesses will help the mission – especially with new underwear and school supplies.

Michael said: “We have a wish list of things to go for the kids and babies. One priority is children’s new underwear for boys and girls up to 10 years old, and secure locks.

“It would be great if a manufacturer or wholesaler is willing to give us a good price for any surplus stock, and if any schools have any unwanted desks, chairs, exercise books, playground equipment, preschool toys, suspension files.”

If you have any of the following which are not being used, consider sending them to Reuse Littleborough: paper, colouring books, writing pens/pencils/markers, paint, glue, playdough, children’s clothes and shoes, cot sheets and blankets, children’s towels, ride on toys, swing sets and rockers.

Reuse Littleborough is open six days a week, between 9-4pm Monday – Saturday.

02/03/2020 - A previous version of this article incorrectly stated the container would be going to Neema Village, formerly known as Neema House.
