Rochdale In Bloom: Norden Jubilee Park rated Outstanding for fourth year

Norden Jubilee Park has once again received the highest grade of ‘Outstanding’ at the RHS North West in Bloom Awards in Southport on Wednesday (30 October).

The Royal Horticultural Society’s accolade is the fourth in as many years for the small park, which was one of four across the UK to receive a national certificate of distinction at the national awards last year.

Paul Ellison, Rochdale In Bloom vice-chairman and Friends of Jubilee Park chairman, was on hand to bring success back to Norden village, receiving the maximum level five recognition for the North West It's Your Neighbourhood category.

 

 

Paul said: “The achievement is another success for Rochdale In Bloom and I’m thrilled to be bringing another outstanding award back to Norden.

“Thank you to all the volunteers who have been involved with our wonderful little park over the years; we really couldn’t do it without those who work hard to keep Norden looking beautiful.

“Special praise must go to Phil Starr, my right-hand man, for all his extra special hard work and effort he puts into the park.”

Phil Starr, of the Friends of Jubilee Park, said: “It's overwhelming to be awarded yet another outstanding as well as being a national gold park, one of only three in the entire UK. 

“This really flies the flag high for Norden.”

The regional North West in Bloom competition consists of two judging days. The first is a guided tour taking in areas of interest around Rochdale; the second allows for visits to community-based projects that include local schools, allotments, health and well-being projects and conservation areas.

Each entry is marked on its individual merit and can gain a maximum level five award.
