A fundraiser has been launched for the family of a little boy from Rochdale, whom has an incurable form of cancer.
Mason Scott, six, was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma earlier this year after falling ill in September 2018, developing a limp, losing weight and showing signs of severe discomfort and pain.
Despite his mum Becky’s best efforts, Mason, who is non-verbal and has high-functioning autism, wasn’t diagnosed until January 2019, when a large tumour was discovered in his abdominal cavity, growing into his spine, which has since spread to other areas of his body.
Neuroblastoma is the most common solid tumour in children that occurs outside of the brain. It has one of the lowest survival rates of all childhood cancers, and accounts for 6% of childhood cancer registrations in the UK, with around 95 diagnoses annually.
Since his diagnosis, Mason has lost his ability to walk, lost a dramatic amount of weight and became seriously poorly when going through chemotherapy.
Mason’s family have been told that the little boy would unfortunately not cope with treatment for the cancer.
Friends of the family are now raising funds to help create lasting memories without worrying about money.
Family friend Aimee Lloyd said: “Mason lights up rooms he walks in and he puts joy in our days.
“He is the most lovable beautiful little boy you’ll ever meet, inside and out. He is oozing with personality and cheekiness. He is amazing; there’s no other word for him.
“Mason has fought and fought and unfortunately now there is no cure but hope, pray and wishes for miracles.
“Please help us to help them create lasting memories as Mason is a super special little boy.”
Friends of the family are doing a sponsored walk around Hollingworth Lake on Sunday (30 June) with a fundraising event at Mayfield Rugby Club in August.
