Heywood Rotary whisky tasting evening
Heywood Rotary Club raised £450 for Polio UK at a whisky tasting evening at Heywood Cricket Club on Friday 31 May.
Over 40 Rotary members and friends attended the event in aid of Polio UK, a charity that Rotary International has supported for many years.
President Mike Goldrick said: “I am proud to be in a position where Heywood Rotary Club can support causes and spread the word what Rotary are doing today locally, and the around the world.
“It was another successful Rotary event.”
Since 1985, Rotary’s key humanitarian priority has been to rid the world of polio. Rotary spearheaded the campaign at a time when there were over 1,000 polio cases a day in 125 countries, paralysing and even killing children. Today, the number of cases is down by 99.9%.
Over the last 30 years, Rotary has donated US$1.8 billion to the eradication effort and has protected over 2.5 billion children from the disease through vaccination programmes.
