Plastic fire at Rochdale factory

Date published: 04 June 2019

Fire crews battled a blaze of plastic in a Rochdale factory yard on Monday (3 June).

Fire engines from Rochdale, Littleborough, Heywood and Atherton spent all night battling the 20m by 40m fire on Dyehouse Lane.

Firefighters wearing three breathing apparatus used four jets and two hose reels to prevent the fire from spreading and were on scene until 5am on Tuesday (4 June).

Residents were encouraged to keep their windows and doors shut as a precaution.

Speaking at 9.15pm on Monday, a spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fantastic progress has been made at the incident this evening thanks to the hard work of our firefighters.

“Two fire engines are in attendance and firefighters will work through the night to dampen down and continue to monitor the scene.”
