Springhill Hospice volunteers receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

Springhill Hospice volunteers have been honoured with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK.

The hundreds of volunteers that are part of the Springhill Hospice team have been honoured with the award that was created in 2002 to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. Volunteers from the Hospice work tirelessly in the chain of retail shops, in the Hospice, maintaining the award-winning gardens and serving customers in coffee at the Craven.

Representatives John and Jacqueline Ashworth, volunteers from the hospice attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace back in May, along with other recipients of this year’s Award.

Julie Halliwell, Chief Executive of the Hospice said: “I am delighted that our volunteers have been recognised in this way, for all of the hard work they undertake within the hospice and the gardens, our shops, the coffee shop and in our patients own homes.

“Congratulations to every single one of our volunteers, they should all be feeling incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”

Representatives from Springhill will receive the award from The Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire later this summer.

Springhill Hospice is one of 281 charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the award this year. The number of nominations and awards has increased year on year since the awards were introduced in 2002, showing that the voluntary sector is thriving and full of innovative ideas to make life better for those around them.
