RBH 'magnificent seven' raise hundreds for Alzheimer’s Research UK

Date published: 22 May 2019

A team of runners from Rochdale Boroughwide Housing raised close to £1,000 for a dementia charity when they took part in the annual Great Manchester Run 10k on Sunday (19 May).

Alzheimer’s Research UK was voted in as the nominated charity for 2018-20 by members of RBH at their Annual Members’ Meeting in Middleton last September.

Throughout the two years RBH tenants, employees and local people get involved in all kinds of fundraising for the nominated charity. Events such as bag packing at Tesco, an Easter Egg raffle, an ‘into the groove’ eighties flashback night and the 10k run has already raised almost £5,000 for the charity.

Team runner, Ryan Robson said: “I’ve done a couple of big runs before but the Manchester 10k is something special.

“Running with the team was an extra boost and everyone just wanted to finish and do the best they can for Alzheimer’s Research.

“Runners were very well looked after and the support from the general public and the people of Manchester was sensational.

“At the end of the run, I even had a free massage to relax the muscles. So proud to have been part of the team, I would do it all again in a heartbeat.”

850,000 people live with dementia in the UK with over 2,000 living in the Rochdale area. Fundraising such as this is bringing us closer to when life-changing breakthroughs are made in diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cures for people impacted by dementia.
