Liz McInnes MP completes 10th 10k

Date published: 21 May 2019

Liz McInnes, Member of Parliament for Heywood and Middleton, completed the Great Manchester Run 10k on Sunday (19 May), for the tenth year running.

Ms McInnes completed her first 10k in 2009 raising money for Pennine Acute Trust Charity and in the years since then has raised thousands of pounds for national and local charities including the MS Society, Springhill Hospice, Petrus and the Lee Rigby Foundation.

Ms McInnes said: “The Manchester 10k has become an institution amongst our great community. It’s always a fabulous day and one in which I’ve been proud to take part again this year. So much money is raised for so many charities and it’s a great community event too.

“This year I ran it to raise funds for the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity because I want to do all I can to help eradicate the scourge of homelessness from our towns and cities.

“In one of the wealthiest countries in the world, our citizens should not be so abandoned by wider society that they have to live their lives out on the streets.

“I’m proud of, at the age of 60, having now clocked up 60 miles of Manchester 10k in total, and I’m looking forward to next year already.”
