Holistic practitioner Jo Potts finalist in two categories at awards celebrating women’s achievements

Jo Potts, a holistic practitioner from Castleton, is a finalist in two categories of the 2019 Inspire Awards, which celebrates outstanding achievements by women.

Jo, 48, facility manager of Castleton Health and Leisure Centre, is a finalist in the Fitness and Well-being and Social Enterprise categories after she featured in a new book to celebrate the centenary of women’s suffrage, ‘100 Women, 100 Stories’.

Jo features in the book by Gulnaz Brennan for her contributions to holistic health and spirituality for her business, True Serenity and Enlightening.

True Serenity is a professional treatment centre dedicated to holistic wellbeing, with educational workshops and advice as well as natural healing remedies and reflexology, which originally opened in 2009 at the former Rochdale Online office on Bury Road.

After a spell at Blue Pit Mill, the centre has operated from the Castleton Health and Leisure Centre since January 2018.

Speaking about her nomination, Jo said: "This award would be confirmation that sticking to what you believe in, in the darkest hours, through loss and grief, stress, anxiety and even depression there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

"I believe everything happens for a reason: we live, we learn, we find the positives, we dig deep and we conquer. It shows other women how to believe in themselves, no matter where you’re from, whatever your background, you can achieve.

"I am simply grateful to be nominated, and I honestly wouldn’t change a thing."

The final round of judging for the Inspire Awards will take place in May.

Each category will have one winner and one highly commended which will be revealed at the Macron Stadium in Bolton at the awards ceremony on Saturday 22 June.
