Have you got a few spare hours to make a difference?

Springhill Hospice is looking for more community volunteers; have you got a few spare hours to make a real difference in the community?

Springhill Hospice community volunteers get the opportunity to support Hospice patients and families in their own homes, providing a valuable few hours a week companionship with a patient, whilst allowing families and carers a well-earned break.

Volunteer co-ordinator, Sharon Hancock said: “The community volunteering service is already showing the positive impact and difference it is making to our patients and families in our area.

“It is extremely rewarding to watch our steadily increasing team of community volunteers, growing in confidence and realising how valuable support their support is. This is what some have said:

Debbie: ‘I will never forget visiting my first lady and how it made me feel. Blessed to be able to give my time to reassure, care, listen and smile to somebody in need, knowing I have made a gloomy day shine to someone else and also myself. Community volunteering is truly rewarding and has given me a new self-confidence and a sense of worth.’

Glen: ‘When I applied to become a community volunteer for Springhill Hospice, I went on the Induction course and was amazed at how thoughtful, informative and caring staff were that I came in to contact with. I am even more amazed that once I came on board as a community volunteer, how this support continues and how special they make me feel every step of the way. At no point do I ever feel isolated or unattached to the Hospice; the support network you give is outstanding. I am made to feel part of this exceptional group of people and I am fully aware that if I ever have any queries or need any guidance or moral support, it is there in an instance, which in turn gives me great confidence to be able to go out and visit the family I am assigned to.’
