Easter bonnets and celebrations at St Andrew's, Dearnley

Date published: 26 April 2019

The Rev Rachel Battershell, vicar of St Andrew's, Dearnley loves nothing better than to use 'props' to help her to get her message across to her parishioners.

On Palm Sunday she brought in a couple of donkeys from Wakefield, Tyson and Blossom, to remind worshippers that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey a few days before his crucifixion.

And on Easter Sunday, the happiest, most joyful and the biggest 'Alleluia' day in the Christian calendar, she was delighted to wear her home-made Easter bonnet bearing Christianity's greatest message: 'Christ Is Risen'.

The curate, Rev Anne Gilbert, sported similar headgear at the Easter Bonnet Parade which was held immediately after the Sung Eucharist that was attended by more than 100 communicants plus children from the Sunday School.

The girls from Sunday School also took part in the parade as St Andrew's celebrated Christianity's greatest-ever day in style.
