Borough’s towns treated to a spring clean through government funding

Some areas across the borough of Rochdale are looking cleaner than ever, thanks to a deep spring clean.

Parts of Middleton and Rochdale have already benefitted from the clean, including Middleton Gardens, The Walk, Bull Brow, The Butts, and steps on Bailie Street, paid for by a one-off government cash boost of more than £38,000 given to Rochdale to clean high streets and town centres.

Heywood, Littleborough and Milnrow will also benefit from similar cleaning later this month.

The funding will also give local authorities across the country an opportunity to do more to encourage communities to take greater pride in their local area and support campaigns such as Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean Campaign (running from 22 March to 23 April).

Rochdale Borough Council’s director of neighbourhoods, Mark Widdup, said: “Living in a clean and green environment is really important for our residents. We work year-round to make the borough’s streets, parks and green spaces somewhere to be proud of, but this work is particularly important in spring.

“That’s why, as part of our annual Spring Clean campaign, we’ve started to jet wash and deep clean town centre locations across the borough.

“We’ve already started this work in Rochdale and Middleton, with cleaning in Littleborough, Heywood and Milnrow set to take place in the coming weeks.”
