PossAbilities-run day centre in Middleton to close

Date published: 09 April 2019

A Middleton day centre run by social enterprise PossAbilities will close on 28 June.

Woodclough Day Centre, which offers an adult day care centre for older people with dementia and other conditions, will close in the summer, due to a lack of referrals.

Rachel Law, Chief Executive of PossAbilities, said: “Sadly we have had to take the decision to close Woodclough Dementia Day Centre with effect from 28 June.

“We have been providing a great service to local people since we took on the centre from the council in 2014. However, despite all of our efforts to make it sustainable we have simply not been receiving sufficient referrals, and as a result have been subsidising the service for five years which we are unable to continue to do.

“Rochdale Council will be holding a series of meetings with current users of the service, families and carers to advise on alternative services in the area.”
