City of Trees calls on organisations and individuals to tot up their tree planting totals

City of Trees aims to plant 3 million trees over the next generation

The ‘Big Tree Count’ campaign aims to capture tree planting across Greater Manchester which has taken place this season (November 2018 – March 2019).

Led by leading environmental charity City of Trees, the Big Tree Count encourages organisations, individuals and groups to share their tree planting success.

For all those who have helped new trees take root across Greater Manchester whether it’s 1 or 1,000 the charity is offering free wildflower seeds as well as its ‘A Tree for A Tree’ scheme where eligible organisations could get free trees next season.

City of Trees aims to plant 3 million trees over the next generation – one for every person in Greater Manchester and wants to create towns and cities that are greener, happier and healthier.

Part of their remit is to find out what tree planting is happening across the region and the campaign captures the great work being done, from individuals planting a fruit tree in their garden to encourage wildlife, to housing associations creating community spaces.

Andy Long, Woodlands Officer commented: “The Big Tree Count is a great way for people to celebrate their tree planting success – and every tree planted in Greater Manchester forms part of the new Northern Forest.

“City of Trees is a movement, and we really want everyone to come together to help plant more trees and reap the benefits they bring for both people and the environment.”

The campaign launched at the start of April to coincide with the end of tree planting season and will run for around a month.
