St Cuthbert's students to bear flags at Old Trafford for UEFA Champions League match

Date published: 05 April 2019

Eight students from St Cuthbert’s High School have been selected to represent the school as flag bearers for the upcoming UEFA Champions League match between Manchester United and Barcelona on 10 April.

Hannah Harrison, Owen Donohoe, Sean McGivney, Annie Johnstone, Reece Thornton, Zak Hughes, Amour Biassala and Josias Kiasuka will be waving the UEFA Champions League flag on Old Trafford’s pitch whilst the players line up for the pre-match handshake.

Manchester United Foundation School Partnership Officer Mr Hilton said: “This a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students at St Cuthbert’s High School. We believe if you work hard to achieve in school, you will be rewarded.

“This is an amazing opportunity to stand on the same pitch alongside some of the most famous football players in the world.”

One of the students said: “My grades have gone up in most of my subjects at school and always try to be a role model student for others.

“It would make my dream come true to walk out onto The Theatre of Dreams with my idols.”

St Cuthbert's RC High School has been a Manchester United Foundation partner school since March 2019.

As a partner school, the rewards scheme is offered to all students for various events and rewards that Manchester United Foundation host. Students are selected on behaviour, academic results and attendance within the school. This initiative provides the students with the focus to work really hard within school and be rewarded for their efforts.

The game will be televised on Wednesday 10 April at 8.00pm.
