Pub chain Samuel Smith’s ban mobile phones

Date published: 02 April 2019

A number of Samuel Smith’s pubs are banning mobile phones.

This notice, present behind the bar in one of the brewery’s pubs in the Rochdale borough, says that all phone calls must be taken outside and that mobiles are not to be used on the premises.

It is not known if the ban extends to all of Samuel Smith’s 300 nationwide establishments.

The chain is notorious for banning music and television back in 2004 across its establishments, later introducing a swearing ban in 2017.

The latest ban is understood to also cover laptops and tablets.

Samuel Smith’s Brewery has been contacted for comment.

Sam Smith's pubs in the Rochdale borough include:

  • Brownhill Hotel, Howard Street, Rochdale
  • White Lion, Edenfield Road, Norden
  • The Roebuck, Rochdale town centre
  • The Eagle, Oldham Road, Rochdale
  • Grapes Inn, Peel Lane, Heywood
  • Engineers Arms, Aspinall Street, Heywood
