Whitworth students secure trampoline titles

Date published: 02 April 2019

An inter-school trampoline competition saw a Whitworth Community High School student bounce her way to the individual and team Platinum titles.

At Fearns Community Sports College, Stacksteads, Whitworth students competed against Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School and Haslingden High School.

Melissa Butterworth, 13, who is also a member of Bury Trampoline Club, won the individual Platinum medal and, along with Phoebe Barron and Izzy Bradley Harris, the Platinum team competition title too.

She said: “We had to complete two routines, the first is a set one and then you can either repeat that again or, as I did, choose to do a completely different routine.

“In school we had been practising for about three months and I have been going to Bury Trampoline Club for two years.”

She regularly takes part in competitions with the Bury team and will be taking part in a major event in six weeks.

Melissa said: “The best thing about trampolining, apart from the bouncing, is that I get to go to competitions that are held all over so I get to different parts of the country.”

Although Fearne Leech, 12, took up the sport about 18 months ago and was taking part in her first competition; she too was competing at the highest Platinum level.

She said: “I was quite nervous, but I will be entering more competitions in the future.”
