Parkfield Primary Eco team take part in Green Summit

Parkfield Primary School Eco team were invited by Mayor Andy Burnham to the Green Summit at the Lowry Theatre on Monday 25 March.

The Green Summit unveiled proposals for urgent action to launch of a five-year plan and an overarching ambition to become carbon neutral by 2038.

Young people gave their views and ideas on how in Greater Manchester can become a greener more sustainable city.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Our children loved the summit and got so much out of it, they were enthused by some of the exhibits, especially the ‘Tesslar’ that ‘danced’ for us.

“They saw cars and motor bikes that produced nothing but water from their emissions,  they learnt about how we can prevent flooding through sustainable drainage,  took a ride on a very special  bike and brought home a pencil that after they have used it, they can plant it and it will grow into a tree.

“They listened to what Andy Burnham had to say about his plans for a greener environment and Prince Charles even sent a message.     

“Our Eco team is extremely active in many areas and are constantly building on their ‘Green Flag’ status. 

“Our brand-new Eco Garden is almost complete thanks to a fantastic £10,000 donation from the Big Lottery and our recycling efforts are going from strength to strength with carrier bags, crisp packets and writing implements now being recycled.”
