Children celebrate Shakespeare Week with Helen O’Grady Drama Academy Rochdale

Date published: 27 March 2019

Over 160 children across Rochdale joined in with special Shakespeare-themed drama sessions at The Helen O'Grady Drama Academy Rochdale for Shakespeare Week (18-24 March).

Children at the academy’s regular classes in Castleton, Norden, Shawclough and Littleborough took part alongside school workshops at St Gabriel's RC Primary School and St Vincent's Pre School, totalling 165 participants.

Each session featured the opportunity to explore Shakespearian language and emotions, themed games and the opportunity to participate in some of Shakespeare’s plays, such as Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing and As You Like It.

Principal Gemma Johnson said: “It was a wonderful opportunity to introduce children of all ages to Shakespeare.

“The children had a great deal of fun and we are proud to have participated in Shakespeare Week.”

Shakespeare Week is a national annual celebration giving primary school children a great first encounter with Shakespeare.
