Last month saw the residents of Buckley Hall Prison in Rochdale raise £455.50 for Rochdale, Oldham and District Samaritans at their cake bake sale.
David Roebuck, Safer Custody Officer, presented Moyra and Deborah, members of the local Samaritans branch’s prison team, with the cheque.
A spokesperson for Samaritans said: "As the branch has to rely on donations and fundraising efforts to stay open to support the many people who contact Samaritans, the cheque is very gratefully received."
Last month volunteers spent 145 hours on the phone answering 927 calls and replied to 51 emails and 236 texts.
Rochdale, Oldham and District branch has been supporting the prison for a number of years, training prisoners to become Listeners in the prison so all prisoners have access to emotional face to face support.
